Our Mission
The mission of the Waverly Chamber Music Series (WCMS) is to bring people together for the enjoyment of community and music by providing high-quality chamber music concerts for Waverly and the Cedar Valley. If you are interested in performing in future seasons of the WCMS, please contact artistic director Eric Wachmann at [email protected].
Our History
Offering access to high quality art and music experiences to ones community is a fundamental aspect of how the arts enrich our local culture and our quality of life, as well as a testament to the artistic resources available in Waverly and the Cedar Valley. The story of the Chamber series is deeply rooted in a desire to offer amazing musical experiences to the public through a model not based on profit, but on sustainability through donation.
In early 2017, a group of musicians and music-lovers came together to discuss the possibility of establishing a city chamber music series for the greater Waverly and Cedar Valley communities. The original steering committee, consisting of Kate Huffman, Jennifer Larson, Ron Matthias, Penni Pier, Ted Reuter, Paula Survilla, Travis Toliver, Eric Wachmann, Barbara Zemke, met over the next few months and wrote articles of incorporation which were filed with the state of Iowa, wrote bylaws, and filed a successful application for 501(c)(3) charitable organization status.
Their first goal for the newly formed board was to establish performance dates for a five concert series for the 2017-2018 season. In addition to fund-raising by board members for a series that will be offered to the public free of charge, the music director, Eric Wachmann, brought potential performer suggestions to the board and ultimately secured a dynamic and exciting opening season for the series.
